On the evening of October 24, the youth group gathered in the Fellowship Lodge for Youth Focus. Their time together opened with a prayer for the food and fellowship ahead, and then the meal was served. This month’s dinner was catered by Cane’s Chicken and was quite enjoyed by the youth. Dinner ended with a dessert of ice cream sandwiches and was followed by a few rounds of Bible Trivia. During the activity, the youth were divided into teams that had to make guesses based on images that correlated to different Bible stories and characters.

Once the game concluded, it was time for the devotional service. To begin, the Asaya siblings led the young people in singing “These are the Days of Elijah,” “Open the Eyes of My Heart, Lord,” and several other songs. After the music was finished, Erik Calhoun asked for prayer requests, and prayed that their hearts would be prepared to hear God’s Word.

Mylo Ivany opened his message with a Scripture reading about the account of the rich, young ruler (Mark 10:17-22). Brother Mylo told the young people not to allow the devil to slow down their spiritual lives because of their age. God can work through people no matter how old they are. The important thing is to be sure the concerns of this life do not get in the way of what God has planned. In sharing his testimony, Brother Mylo reminded the group that “just because we get saved, it doesn’t mean the devil won’t attack us with those happiness highs. We all have things in this world that can step in and become idols.” He closed by urging the young people to “throw those idols down” and “walk as close to Jesus as we possibly can.” Unlike the rich, young ruler, believers need to be willing to drop everything for Jesus and follow Him. The evening ended with a time of prayer.
