On the morning of October 4, the Portland youth group and visitors from branch churches who came for the weekend of special services travelled to Sauvie Island to participate in many activities. These included a pumpkin patch, animal barn, old-time country store, hayride, and, perhaps most anticipated: the Corn Maize. Upon arrival, many of the young people dashed into the maze, excited to see who could finish first. After coming to the end, several exhausted maze goers were hungry and in need of refreshments. The numerous food options to choose from included corn dogs, burgers, kettle corn, apple cider donuts, and specialty coffee drinks. Throughout the afternoon, the young people had plenty of opportunity to talk and hang out with friends. “A truly blessed time!” exclaimed one participant. The trip was appreciated by all who attended.

Later that day, evening activities kicked off with a delicious dinner that brought the young people together for more fellowship and fun. Everyone enjoyed hearty beef stroganoff served with roasted carrots, garlic herb bread, and a crisp Caesar salad. Dessert was a perfect fall apple crisp.

After dinner the group enjoyed a lively game led by Josh and Mackenzie Friesen that got everyone thinking and laughing. The game, called "Versle,"was a creative Bible version of the popular game "Wordle." The Friesens read a verse and then teams had to guess where it was found in the Bible. As guesses came in, parts of the reference were marked in green or red to indicate which parts were correct or wrong. The friendly competition brought out some impressive Bible knowledge.

Once the game wrapped up, it was time for worship. Chris Luka led several songs including “Alleluia,” “This Is Amazing Grace,” and “Revelation Song.” Then Ryan Trotter brought a message from 1 Kings 12:1–15, asking the question, “Whose voice are you listening to?” He challenged the youth to consider whether they were tuning in to God’s voice or someone else's. He reminded that it is easy to get distracted or start listening to the wrong voices. The Word of God is the only standard of truth, and Christians need to know it for themselves so they can recognize truth from deception. He encouraged everyone to be lights in the world, to live differently, and to stay grounded in Scripture so they won’t be easily pulled down by the sinful culture around them.

The evening ended with a sense of encouragement and conviction—good fellowship and a time for worship, followed by a message that left everyone thinking about the voices they choose to listen to each day.
