The 2025 Baccalaureate service opened with Sam Asaya, Chris Luka, and Caleb Copko playing an instrumental trio as a photo slideshow of this year's graduates played on the screens. The images showcased childhood moments and milestones for each graduate, sharing glimpses of their journeys with the congregation.
For the prelude, the youth orchestra performed “Come, Now Is the Time to Worship.” Erik Calhoun then read Proverbs 2:1-9, which encourages the pursuit of godly wisdom. Samuel Oni followed with a prayer, thanking the Lord for His guidance so far and asking for continued blessings on the graduates as they move forward into the next chapter of their lives.
The choir sang “Who Am I?” featuring solos by Marcus Luka and Julia Moberg. Barrett Oilar, one of the high school graduates, performed excerpts from “Fantasie” by Strauss—a piece he played at the state solo contest on French horn. His performance was both impressive and inspiring.
Sawyer Parker shared a brief testimony, expressing gratitude for the Lord’s help in his success with dual-enrollment college classes during high school.
Austin McCarville, who graduated from Oregon State University, testified that he was thankful for his parents’ Christian examples. After he transferred to OSU, he was able to let his light shine there for three years. He shared with classmates and students (during his internship) that his weekend activities included going to church.
Cecilia Morgan, who earned a Master’s degree from the University of Oregon, shared a powerful testimony tracing her journey back thirty years to when she was saved. During a battle with cancer, she felt God speak to her, affirming He had a purpose for her life. Eight years later, He directed her to apply to a specific academic program. Though the studies felt overwhelming at first, she again heard His assurance: He would walk with her through each step. She leaned on that promise, eventually discovering a real joy in the research and "science-y" (surely a technical term) aspects of her field.
Graduates Susan and Sarah Asaya, along with Hope Green, sang a beautiful trio titled "Forever." Sola Adesope then shared remarks, reading from Proverbs 3:5-6, which begins, “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart.” He reminded the graduates that they have been supported in prayer by their families and friends, and by the family of God. As they step into a world filled with both opportunities and challenges, his message was simple and profound: “Let God lead.” He urged them to seek the Lord’s will in every situation and trust that when the path seems unclear, God will bring clarity. He reminded them that they were created for more than academic success. God is on their side, and He designed them for great things as they follow His will for their lives.
Susan Asaya sang a closing song, “My Task,” before Brother Erik presented the class of 2025, which included sixteen graduates: twelve from high school, one from community college (soon to attend university), two with bachelor's degrees, and one with a master's degree.
Ryan Erdmann gave the closing prayer, then everyone gathered in the Fellowship Lodge for a time of celebration with nearly mile-high mud pie and fellowship with the family of God.
