On May16, 2025, the Portland youth group gathered in Eagle Crest, Oregon, to enjoy a blessed time of faith, fun, and fellowship. Once everyone had settled into their designated houses, dinner was ready. Meals for the weekend included many delicious dishes that were graciously provided by Jon Barrett and his crew.
After dinner, Caleb Copko led the youth in singing a few worship songs. The devotional that night (as well as all other devotionals) was led by Erik Calhoun. He started by asking the young people whether they wanted to receive something from the Lord while they were there. Every hand in the room went up! He went on to say that God could make that happen and proceeded to ask if anyone had questions related to the Bible or about guidance in a specific area. The key points of the discussion that followed were “the key to receiving is surrender” and that “it is better not to argue with others about whether or not they are Christians when trying to share the Gospel with them.” These echoed the main verse of the weekend, Jeremiah 29:13, “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” It was a good reminder that in order to truly receive from the Lord, seeking Him needed to be done first. The evening concluded with a time of prayer.
The next day, breakfast was served promptly at 9:00 a.m. prior to the morning devotional that took place at a nearby park. Following a few songs, it was time for more discussion questions. Many topics were mentioned, including having an “extra-special” relationship with Christ, evangelizing through love for others, maintaining godly relationships, discerning false teachings, consecrating one's life, being called to do God’s will, and the undeniable truth that God is a personal God who wants all to receive from Him. Brother Erik offered thoughtful insight on all questions asked and encouraged the young people to go deeper in learning from the Lord.
Lunch was eaten after the devotional and then there was a period of free time. Activities included golfing, shopping, swimming, hiking, fishing, and assorted sports. Afterward, the youth group met for dinner and a devotional. Songs were sung, testimonies were shared, and Brother Erik gave a short sermon about seeking God and revival. The night ended with an incredible prayer meeting in which the Spirit of God was prominent.
The last day began with breakfast and a final devotional. During this time, victorious testimonies were given and Brother Erik closed with the encouraging words that many more victories were soon to come. A prayer for safe travels home was said and everyone dispersed. It was a truly blessed weekend for all who attended.
