This month's sunny Youth Focus, held on April 12, began with prayer and a long, eager line of young people waiting for dinner. A variety of pizzas were served, along with a garden salad and a dessert of ice cream bars and cookies.
After eating and fellowship, the youth were invited to a time of songs led by Susan and Sarah Asaya. Worshiping together, they sang "Agnus Dei," "Amazing Grace," and a newer favorite, "Psalm 19."
Erik Calhoun then gave a message centered on the Book of Proverbs, noting how it covers key areas in a Christian’s daily walk: wisdom versus foolishness, relationships, money and generosity, pride and humility, and the importance of a good work ethic. He encouraged everyone to read one chapter of Proverbs every day to prepare for the upcoming youth retreat.
Following the brief message, the youth were instructed to break into small groups and prepare short presentations on an assigned Bible text. As each group pulled up their passage from Proverbs, they discussed its background, meaning, and how it can be applied in daily life, both now and in the future. Volunteers then shared what they learned about controlling the tongue, the differences between knowledge and wisdom, speaking the truth in love, and much more. It was a lovely evening of fellowship and discussion, concluding with prayer requests and a time of prayer.
