The Mother’s Day Sunday morning service began with the orchestra playing “Oh How He Loves You and Me” and “Stayed Upon Jehovah.” The choir then sang “Find Us Faithful.” The congregation joined in, singing hymns that celebrated Christian family and God’s love, including “A Christian Home,” “Joy of My Desire,” and “Amazing Love.”
Following prayer, Pastor Dave Lambert invited all mothers in attendance to stand and be recognized, offering a moment of heartfelt appreciation for their faith and dedication. In the narthex two tables were set up with vases full of beautiful carnations. Mothers were invited to visit the tables after service to receive a flower. Special recognition was given to mothers who had welcomed a new baby within the past year. Each received a thoughtful gift set of a Bible story board book, a soft plush whale for her little one, and a selection of calming teas for those needed moments of rest.
A men’s trio of Jeremy Barrett, Barrett Oilar, and Michael McCarville, sang “We Have This Moment.” Brother Dave read the Scripture reading from Exodus 2:1-10, the account of Moses’ birth and his mother’s actions which preserved his life. Before the sermon, a ladies' trio comprised of Ade Asaya and her daughters Sarah and Susan sang “He’s Been Faithful,” with beautiful harmonies.
Harlan Lee, from Roseburg, Oregon, preached, using the text Matthew 13:31-33. There, Jesus shared parables to teach that little is much when God is in it. In one story, a woman “hid [leaven] in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.” When bakers make bread, they are careful when adding the yeast and mixing the ingredients. Christian mothers are prayerful and deliberate as they bring their children up, making every effort to instill a knowledge of God’s love for them. Brother Harlan closed with a heartfelt reminder of the lasting blessings brought by godly women who faithfully follow Christ and nurture others along the way.
