Not long ago, I decided to bake some cookies and took out my favorite cookie sheets. They are rather beat up, but I like them anyway because the cookies do not stick and the pans are quite large.

Looking at the cookie sheets, my mind went back to the early days of my marriage. One time when we visited my husband’s mother, I noticed that her kitchen knives were in poor repair and thought it would be a good idea to buy her some new ones. However, after we gave her the new set, I saw she was still using the old, sorry-looking knives each time we visited her. I wondered why she still used those when she had nice new ones!

Today, many years later, I understand why my mother-in-law liked her old knives better than the new ones. Just like my “beat up” cookie sheets, which are still in use because I know they will bake a good cookie, my mother-in-law had proven her old knives and knew they would work for her. They had been used many times and had never failed.

That is the way of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It has been tried many times and in many situations, and has proven true for countless saints down through the ages. The Christian life may be considered “old fashioned” by some, but it has never failed!  

In my life, I have found that the “old-fashioned way” is still the best way, and the only way! We have an assurance that God will undertake for us when we pray according His will, and that He is directing our lives to give us peace, contentment, and an eternal home in Heaven. No other religion can compare to this Gospel because no other religion has the power to change lives. It may not be the newest, trendiest, or most popular way, but it works! This Gospel is tried and true, and we would not want to exchange it for anything.
