“Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure.” – Isaiah 46:9-10
A traffic helicopter circled around and followed our car down the freeway as we approached a busy intersection. We were unfamiliar with the area and very unsure of the road ahead, so when we saw the sign that told of a radio station broadcasting the traffic report, we tuned our radio to that station. We were told of a detour several miles up the highway that had backed up traffic ahead of us. A large truck had jackknifed and spilled its load over the freeway, and it would take two or three hours to clean it up so traffic flow could resume. We appreciated the warning and took out the map to find an alternate route to the next city.
As we laid aside the map, I thought about the pilot of that helicopter and the person who gave the traffic report. They could move about without hindrance over the city, up the highway or down, spotting areas of congestion and hovering over the site to report the problem to the drivers on the road. They could see for miles!
That is how I think of God. He is able to see everything at once! He knows the details of situations that we cannot know, and He also knows what lies ahead in the future. He warns us if we are on a wrong path, telling us when to stop, when to turn around, and when to exit. He directs us in every facet of our lives! He knows the end from the beginning because He is God, and we have a promise that His hand will lead us and His right hand will hold us (Psalms 139:10).
God’s instructions are not hard to follow. We must read the Bible to find them, and He will also guide us with His Spirit as we listen for His still, small voice. He wants to lead us in a plain path, but it is up to us to tune in and follow the “traffic report.”
