Pondering a recent increase in gas prices, I remembered several years ago when there were gas-price wars. Often, several gas stations in a small suburb of Portland would advertise their low prices on local radio stations, and traffic congestion would result as people tried to take advantage of the low cost. One gas war continued for several weeks—when one station dropped its pump prices, the station across the street would also lower its price to a penny below the other’s. It was wonderful for the consumer and good publicity for the stations involved.  

There is also a war taking place in our Christian walk. This war is very serious and we need to be fully aware of it. God and Satan are offering different paths for our lives, and our eternal destiny depends on the choice we make.

In this spiritual war, the devil comes in full force with his attractive advertisements, trying to lure Christians into buying into his so-called “deal.” His prices appear to be low and his product is appealing to the eye—power, wealth, beauty, and popularity. However, appearances can be deceiving, and that certainly is the case with what Satan offers. Those who succumb learn that Satan’s product is diluted with lies, but by that time they have already paid more than they expected.

How thankful we are that the Lord makes available a product that is perfect in every way! When we give our lives to Him, He offers “fill-ups” of love, faith, peace, and joy, and we can access these things by simply spending time with Him in prayer and reading His Word. His products are far greater than what the competition offers, and there is no cost—the price has already been paid by Jesus’ death on Calvary. God’s gifts are unbeatable!

When we fill up with what God has to offer, we are given strength to resist any temptation the devil may present. God gives victory over the enemy and eternal life in Heaven. May we hold tightly to the Lord and never let Satan’s deceptive premiums lure us.
