“Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.” – 2 Peter 3:14
The dress was a favorite of all my daughters. When one outgrew it, the next younger would claim its ownership and wear it with delight. Though the dress had been in the family for several years, it still hung gracefully. When worn, it seemed to turn an ordinary day into a festive occasion!
One day, this treasured outfit got a spot. Maybe a stray French fry had dropped onto its satiny material, or greasy fingers had smudged it by accident; whatever the cause, it left its mark. I knew the dry cleaners would be the only place that could remove the oily stain and restore the dress to its original state. The attendant on duty checked the dress and assured me that their highly trained staff could take care of the problem.
Later that week, I returned to pick up the dress. When I got home, I checked the soiled area and saw, to my dismay, that the much-loved dress still had a noticeable spot on it! I knew the cleaners had done the best they could, but because of that spot, the dress never held the same appeal again.
When we become Christians, our spiritual robes are washed in the Blood of Jesus, and every kind of sin spot that had stained our lives is completely removed. The Lord does a thorough job in the cleaning department—not even a part of a blemish is left behind. His Blood, the “Spot Remover,” takes away every stain, big or small, producing a sinless, spotless life.
Once our garments are clean, we must take care to keep them spotless. Even the slightest decision to disobey God will leave a spot on our hearts and, as with my daughters’ favorite dress, one small spot will have a terrible impact. We will not go to Heaven with sin in our lives, which is why Peter encouraged us to be diligent, and to be found of Him “in peace, without spot, and blameless.”
Spot removers are on the market today to help with minor soils, and dry cleaners are available for tougher jobs. Some products work; others do not. However, in our spiritual lives, nothing but Jesus’ Blood can wash away our sins. How does your life look? Is there any spot of sin? God has the spot cleaner that will remove any kind of spot from our lives if we will simply ask His forgiveness.
