“He that winneth souls is wise.” – Proverbs 11:30
Recently, our computer needed to have some work done on it, so we hired a young man who was trying to build up a computer repair business. He came to our house and took the computer to his shop. After a few days, he came back and said that our hard drive had been destroyed. My response was, “No big deal.” He almost fainted! I explained that a hard drive crashing really did not rate very high among all the other problems in the world today, which apparently was not the reaction he was expecting. Before he left, we worked out an agreement that would not cause him any inconvenience or even force him to spend money out of his pocket.
A few days later, our computer tech sent a letter in the mail stating that he had never before received such a gracious response from one of his customers. In the next few weeks, my wife and I were able to invite him and his family to a patriotic concert presented by our church, and he came with his family and brother. From a situation that could have been nothing more than a common business interaction, the Lord was able to bring an entire family into His house.
As Christians, we must always remember that we are ambassadors for Christ and that we are representing Christ in everything we do. It is wiser to leave a good impression on the people we do business with, rather than to contend for our “rights,” or to fuss about a situation that has gone wrong and may even cost us money. Getting upset cannot change the situation, but the right attitude could gain something that is invaluable.
Every day, wherever we go, our lives are filled with opportunities to be examples of Christ. Although we may never realize the effect that our lives have on others, let us do our best to be wise in winning souls for the Lord!
