“I can't find it!” were my famous words as a child. When my mother would ask me to go get something for her, often I would return empty-handed with this response. Usually the problem was not that the item was missing, nor did I have a lack of visual clarity. The problem was that I just could not “see” it. Often, what I was looking for would be right there in front of me, but as I looked at the numerous items around it, I did not spot it.  

In the account today's focus verse comes from, Elisha's servant could only see the problems surrounding them. Sometimes that can be so easy to do! Elisha, however, could see beyond the problems; He knew the Lord was working on their behalf. At times, we can become so overwhelmed with life that we cannot see the Lord working. Or, if our spiritual vision is not clear, we may struggle with “seeing” what He desires us to see. The Lord wants to teach us to trust Him, even when we cannot see His Hand working.  

If we are having difficulty seeing what the Lord wants us to see, we can ask Him to open our spiritual eyes. When I was a child, my mother would tell me to go search again. Sometimes we, too, must seek God's face persistently to get a clear vision from Him. It may take some effort on our part—perhaps some extra time in prayer—but it is worth it! If we invest the time, He will be faithful to show us what He wants us to see.
