“Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.” – Luke 10:20
We were in the middle of lunch when the phone rang. It was an offer for another credit card—this solicitor was at least wise enough to save postage! The representative asked if I wanted a “fantastic” credit company to send me some “very valuable information” about its services. The information would include a plastic card, so all I would need to do to activate the account would be to sign the card and use it once. Then I would be the lucky beneficiary of these great services.
The representative did not mention a monthly bill that would require a monetary contribution on my part, but I suspected as much. Therefore, I said I was not interested and thanked him for the call.
Those types of offers come to most of us, usually through the mail. When they come to our house, they go directly into the shredder, as we consider it wiser to carry only one credit card, paid off in full at the end of each month. Thus, I have no use for these “deals,” but I thank God for the day I heard about an offer that was—and is—too good to pass by.
Jesus Himself made this offer available when He died on the Cross. When we receive salvation, He pays off our debt of sin. No interest accrues for His provision, and there are no monthly fees or expiration dates for His services. Our account can never be stolen or accidentally lost, and best of all, there are no late charges because we never have to pay Him back! All of these benefits are purely a gift from God, with no strings attached.
The benefits of God’s plan do not end with the initial offer. He also offers to remove our sinful nature, make us instruments of righteousness, heal our infirmities, and handle any other need we have. The Originator of the offer will even be our best Friend, walking beside us throughout our lives until we arrive at the eternal home He has provided for us in Heaven.
Most deals that sound too good to be true are just that, but how thankful we are for God’s truly amazing plan of salvation! No competitor can beat His offer!
