“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.” – Psalm 121:1-2
Since we moved to our new home, we have a beautiful deck facing a range of hills. While sitting there looking at the scenery, I feel especially close to God. I can recall many times when my help came from “the hills” as God answered my prayers.
On one particular occasion, my husband was very ill. The doctors kept running tests, but they did not know what the problem was. Then one Sunday morning, after he had not slept all night, I stood at the kitchen window and lifted my eyes up to the hills, knowing he needed a healing. I asked the Lord to remember us and pled our cause to Him. As I cried out to God, I knew that He was our Healer, and gained faith from recalling the many times we had proven Him in our marriage. That night, our ministers anointed my husband (according to James 5) and prayed for him, and God healed him! The following morning, his doctor called to apologize because he still did not know what was wrong. I was able to tell him there was nothing to worry about any longer!
As I think about that difficult time—the days missed from work and our desperate need for help—I am reminded of the Bible account of the woman who spent much money on doctors and still was sick. She had an illness for twelve years, yet she knew that if she could just touch the hem of Jesus’ garment she would be healed. When she pressed through the crowd and finally touched Him, He turned and told her, “Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole” (Matthew 9:22). The only One who could help her was “the Lord, which made heaven and earth,” and He did!
Do you need help for a situation in your life? Ask yourself the question in Genesis 18:14: “Is any thing too hard for the Lord?” He is the only One who can meet our every need. Are you “looking to the hills” for your help today?
