“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” – Hebrews 13:8
My wife and I were once again traveling south on US Interstate 5, a major highway between Canada and Mexico. One of the most significant landmarks in the area we were traveling through is beautiful Mt. Shasta. On this particular journey, we noticed that the mountain seemed to change positions. It appeared on our left side, but after a few miles it seemed to have crossed the road to our right side. We realized, of course, that the mountain had remained perfectly stable, but the road had turned, causing this change of perception. Our view of the mountain had changed, but not its position.
Our walk with the Lord can be much the same as that drive through California. At times, it may seem that God changes positions, but we are informed in Scripture that He is the same every day. It is only our perception that changes our view, because He never changes.
When we have a need and we begin to pray and seek God’s will, sometimes the answer comes right away. At those times, it is easy to see how truly powerful and faithful God is. That is when He seems to be directly in front of us; there is no doubt that He is our strong Deliverer. At other times, though, we may struggle and wrestle to get an answer. We might begin to doubt the promises He has given us, and it is then that He may seem to have moved one way or another.
As we bring our needs before the Lord and continue to intercede for various needs and situations, we can encourage ourselves and boost our faith by remembering that we are praying to the same God who has answered other prayers instantly. He has not changed, and we do not have to let circumstances alter our perspective of Him.
The Lord wants to undertake for us, and He is fully capable of doing so. Only He knows what is best for every situation, and therefore His timing will be perfect. When the answer comes, there will be rejoicing in Heaven, and we who have prayed long and hard will also rejoice.
