08-22-2021 — Sunday Evening Service

Prelude: A bluegrass ensemble (pictured below) played several songs, including “He Leadeth Me,” “In the Garden,” and “In the Sweet By and By.”

Featured Testimonies: Kristin Lee was thankful that God helps with everything that comes in life—school, decisions, choice of husband, and raising children, and also for the peace Jesus gives. Jim Snider testified that the Lord healed him a few years ago when he threw his back out trying to lift a rototiller by himself. Sam Ajayi praised God that on March 1, 2020, the Lord gave him the promise of a healing, and although he was not instantly healed, since then his strength has steadily increased. Roth Mom had problems getting his car started when he was out and about recently, and after praying about the situation, the Lord helped him through the ordeal. He added that regardless of the outcome in that situation, he knew he owed God thanks for all He has done in his life.

First Special: The choir sang “Boundless Love.”

Last Special: Natalie Tonning sang “The Love of God.”

Sermon: Gary Riler used 1 Corinthians 10:14 as his text, explaining that the definition of an idol is something to which one gives extreme admiration. He warned that today, an idol could be creature comforts, video games, vacations, technology, social media, ability or skills, position, and so on. Believers must be careful to keep all these things in the proper place in their lives.
