05-14-2023 – Mother's Day Service

Mother’s Day 2023 was beautiful, warm, sunny, and a perfect day to celebrate all the moms in the congregation. The Sunday morning service began with the orchestra playing “Draw Me Close” followed by “Indescribable.” The choir finished the prelude by singing “Rise Up and Call Her Blessed.”

Congregational singing featured hymns with lyrics about sacrificial love that exists in a home with a Christian mother, such as “A Christian Home” and “Amazing Love.”

After the mid-service prayer, all the mothers and grandmothers stood to be acknowledged and thanked by the congregation. They were all invited to go to the narthex after service for a special gift, which was a flower. The women who had babies since last Mother’s Day were also recognized, and there was a special gift for each of them. They received a small bunny nightlight to add a warm glow to the nursery.

Before the Scripture reading, Verna King and Gary and Kristi Riler sang “Faithful,” written by Ted Friesen. David Lambert read Exodus 2:1-10, telling the story of Moses’ birth and his mother’s successful plan to save his life by placing him in a basket in the river.

Ashley Morgan sang the last special, “Just a Child,” which centered on how the lessons taught by faithful mothers to their children stay with them into adulthood.

Darrel Lee used Hebrews 11:23 as the text for his sermon, referencing the story of Moses. He talked about how important moms, grandmas, and all Christian women relatives are in the lives of young people as they grow up. As children observe those around them who are serving the Lord, they are often inspired to make their own decision to follow Him. Moses’ mother, Jochebed, knew that God had a plan for her son's life, and determined to place him where the Pharaoh’s daughter would likely find him. After Pharoah’s daughter rescued Moses from the river, Jochebed was able to care for him and raise him to know the one true God. The training given to Moses by his mother prepared him for the time when God called him to remarkable things later in life.
