The annual Ghana camp meeting took place August 24 to September 7 with the theme of “Liberation . . . Thou Art Loosed.” Among the 1,400 in attendance, delegates came from all fifty-six branch churches in Ghana and beyond, including Benin, the Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Togo, and Uganda. Representing the West and Central Africa headquarters was Nosa Uwoghiren, the Lagos North Regional Overseer, and his wife, Dorcas, with their children. Also in attendance were the Uganda and Togo Country Leaders, Josephine Okpareke and Bobo Francois, respectively.

On the first Sunday morning, the camp theme was brought out in a program presented by Sunday school children from the Accra zone. In a skit, they gave the account of Esau and Jacob, highlighting the importance of repentance and praying through to victory.

Following this, the morning devotional service featured beautiful orchestral and choral renditions and greetings from brethren worldwide. The morning message was delivered by Joseph Ansah, the Ghana Country Leader, and titled “Total Liberation.” Taking his text from Luke 13:10-13, he assured all that Jesus sees every need and desires to set people free.

The two-week camp meeting featured morning Bible teachings, afternoon youth meetings, and evening evangelistic services pointing hearts to the liberating power of Jesus Christ. The teaching topics focused on doctrinal foundations and included “The Great Atonement,” “Christian Forgiveness,” “Holy Ghost Baptism,” “True Discipleship,” “The Church Militant,” “The Godly Home,” and “Eternal Heaven and Hell.”

During the services, testimonies rang out proving that Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. One man recounted how God provided for the roofing of the branch church in his area. A congregational meeting was called to request prayer about the need, but before the meeting took place, a donor provided the full amount needed. Another man said he had worried that he wouldn’t have children because that was the case with some in his family. However, the Lord assured him that he would have children and now he has four. A woman related how God healed her of cancer, and another praised God for helping her daughter graduate with excellent grades.

In addition to the regular services, other activities throughout the two weeks included a minister and spouse meeting, a child safety seminar, a seekers’ night, and a film presentation. Teenagers also enjoyed a session on “Active Learning,” and the youth participated in a quiz and variety show, a mentorship session, and a program on “Making the Right Choices.”

The annual concert was presented with a theme of “Freedom in Christ,” featuring music from the orchestra, choir, and ensembles. Among the instrumental numbers was “Freedom Forever,” played by a string ensemble. Local airs were also presented, including “Ye’ Mawu Mo!” which is “We Praise God!” The evening of music drew a diverse audience of people from all walks of life, including traditional rulers, government functionaries, and religious leaders. A short skit at the close, titled “Liberation,” led many people to fervent prayers.

During the final devotional service, Ahmed Ibraham, who is the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, gave a brief address on behalf of the President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama. He thanked the church for the invitation and remarked that the camp meeting theme of “Liberation” couldn’t have come at a better time.

The morning message, based on Psalm 46:10; 61:1-2; and Matthew 14:24-31, was titled “Be Still and Know that I am God.” The congregation was admonished that God is almighty and has power to do all things. He answers prayer to meet all of life’s challenges.

The two-week camp meeting inspired and challenged all who attended, and by the close many had been liberated from the bondage of sin or other afflictions. Of the blessings reported, 310 claimed salvation, 192 were sanctified, and 102 received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. In addition, 41 took the step of publicly proclaiming new life in Christ by being baptized in water.
