Following the Australia camp meeting in Sydney, many traveled to Melbourne for the annual weekend of revival meetings, held October 10-12. This included Sam Ajayi, Director of Australia Work, and his wife, Shade. In addition, several joined the meetings online from within and without the country.
The meetings began Friday evening with a choir and orchestra piece, “Like a River Glorious.” They continued with songs of revival and consecration. Then the congregation sang heartily in anticipation of revival blessings, such songs as “Revive Us Again.”
After the congregational prayer, several testified. Sister Shade thanked God for salvation, a godly home, and His intervention in various aspects of her life. Ernest Akerejola, the Australia Resident District Superintendent, told how Jesus saved him and has guided him through getting an education, marrying, and moving to Australia. Lekan Olagookun, a Melbourne minister, thanked God for His saving grace, the blessings of the Sydney camp meeting, and the spread of the Gospel in Australia.
Before the message, the choir sang “The Love of God.” Then Brother Sam read Joshua 15:16-19 followed by Judges 1:12-15, which repeats the same text. He said this was God’s way of emphasizing that His children should ask big things of Him. He encouraged all to first take their spiritual needs to God, who possesses an infinite ability to give the best, and then ask for other needs. The message sparked a great prayer session as everyone went to their knees asking big things of the Lord.
The next evening, the choir and orchestra presented a brief concert as a sacrifice of praise to the Lord. It began with an orchestration of “Spacious Firmament,” included such numbers as “Ride in the Sweet Chariot,” and concluded with “Jesus Is Coming Soon.” It also featured a male choir singing “Didn’t My Lord Deliver Daniel?” and “No Hiding Place.”
A message followed from Psalm 77:6. Brother Sam underscored that God “gives a song in the night” to all who are going through difficulties. This is the grace to sing praises during trials as Paul and Silas did when jailed at Philippi. The service concluded with a great time of prayer around the altar benches.
On the final day of the revival weekend, the morning service began with a piano prelude of “Holy, Holy, Holy.” After the announcements, the choir sang “Keep Step with the Master” and Brother Ernest gave the Scripture reading from Mark 5:24-29. For the message, Brother Sam took his text from Hebrews 4:14-16 and relayed that Jesus is a High Priest who is accessible. He is omnipotent and omnipresent, meaning He can meet a person’s needs anywhere and anytime. Brother Sam used the account of the woman who touched the hem of Jesus’ garment to illustrate that He is reachable and touchable. A beautiful altar service followed as everyone sought to touch Jesus for their own needs.
The special meetings concluded with the congregation touring the newly purchased building that will serve as a permanent place of worship in Melbourne. Everyone was awed by the beauty and size of the church God has provided. Prayers of thanksgiving were offered by Brother Ernest and Sister Shade. Then Brother Sam led in singing “Glory Alleluia, I Shall Not Be Moved.” It was a glorious conclusion to the abundant blessings God had already poured out during the revival weekend and the preceding camp meeting.
