The third annual Lesotho camp meeting took place April 27 to May 4 at the Mineworkers Training and Conference Center in the capital city of Maseru. An exciting aspect of this year’s event was its potential to reach a particularly large audience with the Gospel message. This became possible when the national news station, LesothoTV, decided to broadcast the services during the main news hour.
On the opening Sunday of the camp meeting, nearly all the one hundred chairs at the conference center filled as the morning devotional service began. In addition, forty-five people joined the service online. Along with the local congregation, thirty-one delegates were present from our churches in Botswana, South Africa, and Zimbabwe, and a spirit of unity and joy were prevalent.
The music inspired all to look forward to the week with expectation, including the choir song “There Shall Be Showers of Blessings.” The opening message reflected the camp theme of “Flowing Rivers of Living Water,” taken from John 7:38. It was delivered by the Lesotho Country Leader, Edmond Makwiramiti, who also emphasized God’s desire to impart His glory to every person’s heart before Jesus returns. The service concluded with many seeking God around the altars of prayer.
Throughout the camp meeting week, attendees enjoyed daily Bible teachings and evangelistic services, Sunday afternoon children’s meetings, a concert, and an ordinance service. The first teaching was titled “Born Again” and was followed by a question-and-answer session on salvation, which proved to be beneficial to many. One teaching was on the unique topic of “Single and Living for Christ” and included a personal testimony of victory. The remaining topics focused on the foundational doctrines of sanctification, the baptism of the Holy Ghost, and the Bride of Christ.
The teachings and evangelistic services were followed by earnest prayer meetings with many seeking God and receiving answers to their prayers. This was reflected in the testimonies given throughout the week. Of the five who received salvation, a man in his sixties said he had come to the camp meeting because he lived nearby. On Wednesday evening, he sought God and was saved. This filled his heart with unspeakable joy and since then, his life has been transformed. A ten-year-old boy also prayed and received salvation. He then invited his family to church, and four of them came for the remainder of the services. A woman who had left the Gospel testified of being brought back into God’s fold after praying. Of those who were healed, a man in his eighties said he experienced more than one healing touch, and now his health is completely restored. And a woman said she had been sick to the point of death, but she prayed during the camp meeting and God delivered her.
An additional blessing to those recorded and testified to, was the fellowship experienced during the camp meeting. Many brethren felt a greater sense of unity among our churches and left with renewed determination to encourage each other in the faith.
