The District Superintendent of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Chrisopher King, retired on February 28, 2026, after overseeing the work in that region for forty-one years. His retirement was announced at the Portland headquarters on March 8 during the Winter Tabernacle Meetings. Though Brother King, who is eighty-eight years old and in poor health, was not present, Superintendent General Sola Adesope honored him with a heartfelt expression of appreciation. He stated, “Brother King provided faithful service, wisdom, and steady leadership. His dedication, humility, and love for God’s people will continue to benefit our global work.” Brother Sola also introduced the new district superintendent for the island, Martin Laborde, who has been the pastor at Lowmans Hill for many years. Then he requested prayer for both men, that God would bless them whether in retirement or leadership as they continue in the same old paths of faith.

Earlier in the week, Brother Martin testified, telling how He came to know the Lord. He said that when he was ten years old, his mother prayed and was saved. She began attending our church at Paul Over, and he followed in her footsteps. Then, on July 25, 1973, when he was fifteen years old, he came under conviction while attending a church service. He said, “When the message was preached, I tried to run from God. I went downstairs and stayed there for a while. Then, knowing that my mother would come looking for me, I went back upstairs. However, instead of returning to my seat, I went to the altar, and God saved me. I knew it was real, because I felt the burden of sin lifted off my shoulders.” His wife, Phyllis, also testified, telling how God miraculously raised her up after a problem with her back had kept her bedridden for three weeks.

Over the years, Brother King has also testified of God’s goodness in giving him a Christian heritage. He has shared, “I did not have to search for the truth. My parents were in the Apostolic Faith. They taught me how to pray, compelled me to read the Bible, and took me to Sunday school.” Though he rebelled against the Gospel until he was seventeen years old, one Sunday evening in 1954 he entered a church service at Paul Over and heard the congregation singing “We Have an Anchor.” He testifies, “I knew I did not have an anchor, and that convicted me. I prayed and asked God to give me that anchor, and He saved my soul.” Within a short time, God also sanctified him and baptized him with the Holy Spirit.

Brother King preached his first sermon in 1955 at Paul Over. In 1956, Cecelia became his partner in marriage, ministry, and mission work. The two were sent as missionaries to St. Kitts in 1967, and there Brother King assumed his first pastorate in the city of Basseterre. The couple returned to St. Vincent in 1973, where Brother King would serve as pastor of our churches at Cedars, Grieggs, and then Paul Over. On January 28 of 1985, he became the District Superintendent for St. Vincent and the Grenadines. In the ensuing years, he and his wife traveled extensively throughout the island, encouraging the saints and the Gospel work. Should the Lord tarry, we expect that their faithfulness to God’s call will continue to benefit for generations to come.
