Medford, Oregon hosted combined meetings January 16-20, welcoming guests from Los Angeles, Sacramento, and Richmond, California; Grants Pass, Roseburg, and Portland, Oregon; and Chehalis, Washington. The theme was Victory, emphasized by 1 Corinthians 15:57, which exhorts “…thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Dave Lambert, Portland pastor, and Peter Sletmoe, Grant Pass minister, were the guest speakers.
Friday evening’s service began with a brass ensemble, followed by the choir singing “We’re Marching To Zion.” There were several testimonies of victory, including Heidi Sletmoe, who expressed gratitude for a recent miraculous healing. Brother Dave preached from 1 Samuel 15:17-22, stating that there is no substitute for obediently walking in the Spirit.
Brother Peter led Saturday morning’s devotional by reading from Joshua 18:1-3. He encouraged the group to possess the promise of salvation, highlighting that, in the text, God was faithful to subdue adversaries standing in opposition to the reward. On Saturday night, Brother Peter preached from 1 Samuel 14:6-7, using Jonathan and his armor bearer to illustrate that faith is the victory.
On Sunday morning, Brother Dave preached from Luke 15:1-13, showing that victory comes through repentance and that the Good Shepherd came to save and keep those who are lost. On Sunday night, he preached from Matthew 27:22, posing the question: What will you do with Jesus? Brother Dave expressed that everyone must answer that question. Through the text, he demonstrated that Pilate sympathized with Jesus but ultimately rejected him. Complete victory requires that Jesus be accepted as Savior.
