Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School (VBS) was held from August 12 to 16 and it was a huge success! Melissa Voreis and Darla Hall did a fabulous job of coordinating the whole event. The topic was the value of human life and how God created people equally. The students learned that He loves everyone whether young or old, sick or healthy. The lessons were set in Australia with all of its fun animals and activities. The kids even taste-tested one of its famous delicacies: vegemite!

Each day followed the same schedule of activities. The kids all met first in the Fellowship Lodge to sing some songs and then would go to the Activity Center for arts and crafts. After that, the group was divided into sections based on age to play some fun games out on the front lawn. A yummy snack was provided, and the memory verse for the day was reviewed. Then, everyone went back to the lodge to sing more songs and watch an object lesson or a puppet show. The morning ended with prayer, and then all the kids were picked up by their parents.

Monday’s lesson focused on how God created man in His own image. A fun song said, “You can't make a monkey out of me!” The key verse was Genesis 1:27, reminding the kids that God made humans male and female.

On Tuesday, students had an Aussie treat called “fairy bread.” It was bread with butter and sprinkles and the kids enjoyed it. During the group singing, Laila Cook helped to teach the motions that went with the words, and later, Matt Hanson presented the object lesson.

Wednesday’s lesson was about the importance of defending the defenseless and how God made life to be cherished. The kids played fun games like “coral tag,” “rubber duck,” and “spoon race.”

The craft project on Thursday was to decorate crosses and the kids were very creative with it. Later, popsicles were a refreshing treat after all the fun games. The Bible story taught that God loves each one so much that He gave mankind the gift of eternal life.

Sadly, Friday was the last day of VBS. The kids made visors and door hangers in crafts and the snack was “Dingo Chow,” which was a big hit. The lesson was about how life has a purpose, which is living for God. At the close, the children and helpers said their farewells.

VBS was a wonderful and fun way to instill the Gospel in younger kids, and hopefully it will be something they look back on and remember fondly in the years to come!
