01-28-2023 – Saturday Evening Youth Focus

The first youth focus of the year was held on January 28. The dinner served was reminiscent of Taco House picadors, with taco salad and toppings. For dessert there was a choice between ice cream and cheesecake with strawberries and whipped cream.

Next, there was a game where two people competed to see who was quickest at grabbing a cup after being given other instructions. Erik Calhoun is the reigning champion. After the game, Sam Asaya led the singing, accompanied by piano, ukulele, and guitar.

Brother Erik began the evening’s devotional by reading John 20:20, which says, “And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord.” Brother Erik talked about the portion of the verse that says the disciples were “glad” to see Jesus. Likewise, believers should be glad to see Jesus. At church services and events, it is nice to see people, but the goal should be to see Jesus.

Next, people were split into groups and given portions of Scripture to study together. The verses were found throughout the Bible, and all focused on “seeing God.” Each group was asked to summarize the verses and then explain what can be learned from them, how to apply them to one's walk with God, and how they encourage people to see the Lord in Heaven one day.

Brother Erik reminded the group that while the end goal is to see the Lord in eternity, it is important to see Him daily in this life as well through a personal relationship with the Lord. At the end, everyone was invited to pray.
