And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power. – Colossians 2:10
My sister and I recently embarked on assembling a 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle. It was taken from a painting, not a photograph, so it blended from one area to another and made it difficult to find most of the pieces. We worked for hours each day for about a week and were about to place the last few pieces when we discovered, to our dismay, that one piece was missing! How we searched for that missing piece! We looked under the couch cushions and even the couch and numerous other places. I even looked in my shoe, although I could not see how a puzzle piece could be in there without my knowing it! I finally had to go home without seeing the missing piece in place. However, it was eventually discovered clinging to the side of the plastic bag the puzzle had come in. What a relief!
This experience reminded me of the way people will search for something in life to make them feel satisfied before they come to know Christ as their Savior. We look in every place we can think of to obtain a feeling of being complete—friends, a career, travel, a family, or an education, just to name a few. Yet, we come up empty every time, until we go to the correct Source.
I still remember the feeling before I became a Christian that something was missing from my life. I would search my mind for the things I thought I wanted or that I thought would make me happy, so certain that they could make me complete, but I was never satisfied. After I gave my heart to Jesus, I finally experienced the peace of His forgiveness and realized that my purpose in life is to know and serve Him. Jesus was the only missing piece in my life, and at last I knew what it meant to be complete in Him!
There is nothing and no one but the Lord that can truly fulfill our lives. Today, as we interact with individuals who are still on the hunt for a “missing piece,” may we be quick to point them in the right direction.
