“Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.” – Matthew 24:44
A while ago I decided I wanted to live closer to the Apostolic Faith Church in Portland, so I bought a house in that location. Of course, that meant the house I was living in before needed to be put on the real estate market to be sold. In order to make the house more attractive to prospective buyers, I was told that the house must be “spick and span” and all the clutter must be cleared away, which makes the house appear more “roomy.” Since a real estate agent could call at any hour of the day and want to show my home to a client, it clearly was not a good idea to wait for a call and then start cleaning! Sometimes the agent might call on a cell phone, perhaps just a few minutes away, or in some cases, right outside my front door! Therefore, my house had to be ready at all times for a showing.
That situation caused me to think about the coming of the Lord. We do not know “the day nor the hour” that Jesus will return for His own, and when the trumpet sounds, there will be no time to quickly get ready. By then, it will be too late. That means we must be prepared continually. Our spiritual houses must be “spick and span” at all times. Our hearts must be clean before the Lord, and if any worldly “clutter” has accumulated in our lives, we will have to get rid of it. We must be ready and watching for our Lord’s return.
If our spiritual house is ready, we can look forward to the Rapture of the saints. We anticipate that day with great expectation because we know the Lord will be pleased with us and that nothing will keep us from going with Him. It will not be long before that wonderful day arrives! Let us have our “spiritual houses” in order and be looking for that day.
