Reviewer: Adrienne Wallace

I would recommend this book for women of any age. It
focuseson how to use the truths of scripture to make God the keeper of ourhearts.

The author of this book strives to challenge the reader to completely turn their hearts over to God in every area of their life and become the woman of faith He would have her to be.

It's Not About Me

Author: Max Lucado
ISBN: 159145042X
Reviewer: Christy Barrett

Have you ever come across different situations in your life
where you have thought it was all about you? I have been through many. In Max Lucado's, "It's Not About Me," he provides Scriptural references on how to deal with your problems. An excerpt: "Your pain has a purpose. Your problems, struggles, heartaches, and hassles cooperate toward one end—the glory of God."

Lucado's words helped me to understand that it is a God-centered life that works. Self-centeredness has no place in God's plan for my life—or yours.

With Christ in the School of Prayer

Author: Arthur Murray
ISBN: 0882707795
Reviewer: Rachel Lambert

In 30 daily lessons on prayer, Mr. Murray reminds the reader of the importance of prayer, and gives him or her tools to make prayer more effective. I found the chapters on making prayer specific, and The Lord's Prayer to be most helpful.

Power Through Prayer

Author: E.M. Bounds
ISBN: 088368117X
Reviewer: Amy Scholes and Rachel Lambert

Amy Writes:

Simple yet profound in his analogies, E.M. Bounds, sets forth the argument that prayer must be our foremost pursuit, the life-giving force behind our work for God.
Aside from the Bible, no one book will influence your life more than this, when read prayerfully and put into practice. A MUST read for those who would become more effectual workers for God.

Rachel Writes:

If you are looking for inspiration to pray more, and pray more effectively, this is an excellent book for you.
E.M. Bounds reminds us that the power and grace of God, given through prayer, is the lynchpin of our spiritual walk, and the foundation upon which any effective, spirit-filled ministry must be based.

Favorite quote: "God commits the keys of His Kingdom to men who think that praying is their main business, and devote time to it according to this high estimate of its importance."

Streams in the Desert

Author: Mrs. Charles E. Cowman
ISBN: 0310224209
Reviewer: Rodica Musgrave

This devotional book offers encouragement and spiritual insight on a daily basis. I first read it fourteen years ago during a trying time in my life. The title truly describes the spiritual streams that are contained inside. I found it to be a valuable instrument in learning to trust in God's ways rather than our own. Through sharing her own experiences, Mrs. Cowman brings faith down to a reachable level, and gently guides the reader to a deeper understanding and dependence on God. She freely discusses the deep valleys in her life, therefore allowing others to learn and draw strength when life takes a sharp turn in the seemingly wrong direction.

The joy of the Lord is an underlying thought to which she refers often. One must have joy on the journey, and remember that God supplies us with spiritual streams of joy, even when our life seems like a desert. She emphasizes the wealth of Bible promises that are available to us from God's Word on which we can depend. They are like pillars that will support our spiritual house. Through faith, we must stand on them, and commit all of our resources to ensure they are kept fresh and real in our hearts.

Through the eyes of faith, she describes the beautiful life that can be ours, and the unlimited depths that can be reached. Besides the joy and peace that God gives us, she draws a wonderful picture of the love that grows brighter in our hearts, as we daily commit our way to Him. Like the refining of gold, she takes pleasure in describing the fullness of joy God gives when our life is molded and tested through the heat of our trials. Through His grace, we become vessels that He fills with His Spirit, through which His love can reach the world.

In the Master's Hands: Understanding the Parable of the Potter and the Clay

Author: Phillip Keller
ISBN: 0892833300
Reviewer: Bobbi Downey

A little book with a big message! On a writing and photographic assignment in Pakistan, this author encountered an unexpected, yet life-changing lesson. There he experienced the parable of the Potter and the Clay first-hand, as an old potter showed him the process of turning a lump of clay into a beautiful vessel. The author shares the spiritual lessons he learned from each step the old potter took, with great care, in attempt to mold his clay into a vessel of real value.

The Seeking Heart

Author: Francois de Fenelon
ISBN: 0940232499
Reviewer: Dan Barker

I have many wonderful and treasured volumes in my home, and were I to be forced to give up all but two, I would choose this book to be the sole companion to my Bible. This man, who died nearly 300 years ago, seems to have truly grasped who God is, and perhaps more importantly, who He isn't. Comprised of a collection of short letters sent to various individuals for spiritual encouragement, counsel, and sometimes reproof, these pages will help readers with a seeking heart to let go of their misconceptions about God and what He expects of us. In other words, through these pages many will learn that God is not nearly so concerned with some things that we thought were quite critical, and at the same time, considerably more concerned about other things that perhaps we have given too little attention to. The bottom line is that it sounds a clarion call that will stir your soul to truly let God take full control of your life for His glory... a call that you will never be able to get away from.

Sowing and Reaping

Author: Dwight L. Moody
ISBN: 1589633911
Reviewer: Amy Scholes

If you only read one book by D.L. Moody, make this the one! Moody, the Master Preacher, mixes his encouragement and warnings with stories from real life. Although this is a small book, one cannot read it quickly; it must be digested. This is the kind of book to be used for a daily devotional. Insightful and inspiring!

Humility

Author: Andrew Murray
ISBN: 0882708546
Reviewer: Amy Scholes

Don't check this book out of the library, because you will want your own copy to underline and highlight. The teachings in this book have proven invaluable to me. I've been chastened, inspired, challenged, reproved, and driven to my knees in an effort to obtain the grace of humility which God desires to bestow upon us.

This is not a book you will read once and never give it another thought; you will want to read it again and again.

What Happens When Women Pray

Author: Evelyn Christenson
ISBN: 0896939758
Reviewer: Vickee Martin

The author gives specific, simple strategies for women to pray effectively. For best results she recommends praying in one accord with the Spirit and only for God's will. She encourages readers to pray daily that God will show you the next step that is "His will for you," and to, "Pray first and plan afterward."

Evelyn says the prerequisite to effective intercessory prayer is that there "must be nothing between you and God."
