Hempstead Youth Night

Friday, October 24, 2008

First-time events always come with a lot of excitement and expectation, and that was the case for the first Friday Youth Night at the Apostolic Faith Church in Hempstead, New York, on October 24, 2008. The evening started off at 8:00with the youth singing some choruses including, “This Is the Day,” “Father I Adore Thee,” and many others, after which they were led in the opening prayer. By 8:15 the young people and adults were ready for the next part of the program, which was watching a movie entitled, “The Pretender.” The movie portrayed a young man in high school who tried to fake salvation in order to date a truly saved high school girl. At the end of the movie his true character was revealed and his plans were faulted.

Following the movie there was a discussion led by Daniel Tetteh, the youth leader, with Spirit-filled contributions from some of the adults present, including the pastor, Joseph Lamidi. The topic for the discussion was “Beware of Wolves.” The text was taken from Matthew 7:15-21 and the supplemental Scripture from Jude 3-4 and 12-13. In the discussion, the young people were admonished to be careful of associations who would lure them into sin.Charles Gary, the youth leader from the Apostolic Faith Church in Brooklyn, admonished the young people to pray through to their three basic Christian experiences because that would equip them to know the truth and stand against the deceit of the enemy in whatever form he might come. There were questions from the young people which were answered by some of the adults present. The discussion ended with 1 Thessalonians 5:22, which admonishes people to stay away from “all appearance of evil.”

Joseph Lamidi gave the closing prayer and then there was atime of prayer. Then pizza, chips, and soda were served. All went home blessed, refreshed, and looking forward to the next youth night which will be November 28. The Hempstead youth ask for your prayers that God will always visit in a special way whenever they meet to worship Him.
