Home / For You / ![]() Road Signs By Michelle Hancock Have you ever been driving along just sort of oblivious to the world, and suddenly realized that you had landed right in the middle of a construction project that is causing long traffic delays? Perhaps you have sailed right through a stop sign, or found yourself going the wrong direction on a one-way street. In each case, you could have avoided the situation if you had just been paying attention to the signs. Maybe you pass that way every day, and you wonder, When did they put up those signs? The thought crosses your mind, If only I had been paying attention! The warning signs were there, but you didn’t heed them. A parallel can be drawn between our traffic dilemmas and our spiritual lives if we aren’t careful. Many times we go through life, oblivious to the spiritual “warning signs” that caution us about problems ahead. The Lord is faithful to check us in our hearts when we have started down a road that leads to problems. The Bible tells us, “In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He will direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3:6). God is the master highway designer. He can see any turns in the road that would cause us to error. His goal is to get us to Heaven, but we have to follow the signs. Sometime we go through a tunnel—a trial. We can’t see where we are or where we are going and everything seems dark. Even there, God knows the way and He will help us through. When we travel in a new area of town, maybe the directions don’t seem clear. That can happen spiritually, too, when we face new situations or are uncertain about the future. What then? Consult your map! Spiritually speaking, our map is the Bible. That is another way God speaks to us and gives warning signs. Regardless of where we are in our journey, God has set up signs to help keep us on track. If we follow His leading each mile of the way, the road will lead us to Heaven. Michelle Hancock is
