Mother's Day Hanging Flower Pot

Materials:

•  Large paper plate
•  Styrofoam cup (only ½ is used for each craft)
•  Paint
•  Paintbrushes or sponges to paint
•  Glue
•  String or ribbon
•  Hole punch
•  Green tissue paper
•  OPTIONAL: flower colored tissue paper (yellow, pink, orange, red, purple, blue)

Directions:

•  Paint paper plate
•  Cut the Styrofoam cup in half (from top to bottom--adult’s job) and paint if desired. Let dry.
•  Glue the cup onto the plate. Let dry.
•  Punch a hole into the top of the plate
•  Pull the string or ribbon through the hole
•  Tie the ribbon in a loop to go over a doorknob or a pin to hang up.
•  Cut pieces of green tissue paper (about 4”x 4”)
•  Children can do this with safety scissors as pieces do not need to be exact
•  Tuck the pieces in the cup (they look like leaves)
•  Cut one long strip of green tissue paper about 4 or 5 inches wide.
•  Fold it accordion style (fan fold) as tightly as possible
•  Keeping it folded, cut thin strips
•  Tuck them into the cup as grass

•  OPTIONAL: Write HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY, the child’s name, year, etc. along the top of the plate
•  OPTIONAL: Cut pieces of flower colored tissue paper about 4”x 4”

•  Stack 4 pieces on top of each other (different colors if desired) with a dab of glue in the center of each layer.
•  Stick the eraser-end of a pencil in the center (where the glue dabs are)
and scrunch the flower up around the pencil.
•  Remove pencil and tuck the flowers into the cup.

•  OPTIONAL: Cut simple flowers from construction paper, or cardstock.

•  Cut a circle around a photo of a child and glue to the center of the flower
•  Glue the flower onto the paper plate above the cup
•  Glue a strip of green paper as a stem below the flower (down to the cup) or draw a stem with a marker

•  NOTE: a small photo of child is necessary
