Basket of Meaning

Present this Easter basket to your children for a “sweet” object lesson of the Biblical account of Christ’s Resurrection. This is an easy way for kids to remember why we really celebrate Easter.

Fill an Easter basket with the following objects, and explain the meanings:

  • Easter grass—hay in the manger for baby Jesus
  • Bag of gold, or silver-covered chocolate coins—betrayal of Jesus by Judas
  • Chocolate rooster—Peter’s three-time denial of Jesus
  • Easter basket—woven together like a crown of thorns
  • Hollow plastic egg that opens—the empty tomb
  • Marshmallow chicks and bunnies—new life and new birth
  • Chocolate foil-covered Easter eggs—the shiny streets of gold in Heaven where Jesus is!

End by sharing your Easter basket goodies with your children. Encourage them to share the Good News of Easter with someone they know.
